Because of all the lead based paint issues showing up in the news concerning children’s toys from China, I have been wondering about the safety of the paint and metals in the cages from China.  I had called Andrew at King’s cages who faxed me copies of their heavy metal tests on their cages.  The tests are done in China and as a safety precaution Andrew tests again by an independent American lab once the bird cages have arrived in the United States.

We had this conversation a couple of months ago.  I wasn’t worried about other cages because I haven’t carried any other brand besides King’s for the last couple of years.

I just received this e-mail with the details of a sanctuary in Kentucky that found lead in cages they had received from 2 different manufacturers.  Below is a copy of that e-mail with links to the news story and more information on what to do if you are worried about your bird’s cage.

Many unsuspecting consumers purchase cages from manufacturers, distributors, & websites of cages and bird products that only sell based on price and not quality!! Unfortunately these type companies come and go, sell you a cheaply made product manufactured with toxic and inferior materials which can and will cause your bird to become fatally ill. If you purchased a King's Cage or King's Cages products, you have no worry. We have products manufactured in Europe as well as Asia. All of the products we manufacture are all tested here in the USA. We have reports from the countries we manufacture as well, but we go the extra step by having test conducted here as well to make sure that we have the best quality products that will not get your bird sick. If you purchased cages and products from another company, we would suggest that you go back to the company you purchased from and ask for a copy of the test results showing that there cages & products are safe. Be certain that the reports are from a reputable laboratory and are easy to read.
