Kookaburra Bird Shop, LLC
Kookaburra Bird Shop, LLC was established in 1979 by Terrie Beckley. The shop started as a full line pet shop which sold tame well adjusted birds. At this time, domestically raised hand fed birds were not available. Terrie would personally travel to the quarantine stations where the imported birds came from and hand pick young birds that she would then carefully and patiently tame. Her birds would sit out in a play area and let the general public handle them. While not unusual now, it was unheard of in 1979. Terrie was a pioneer of her time.
As soon as domestically bred hand fed parrots became available in the early 1980s, that is all Kookaburra Bird Shop sold. It was the first shop in the Dallas Fort Worth area to sell domestically raised hand fed baby parrots. As her business grew, Terrie expanded her shop to its current location. Kookaburra Bird Shop is housed in its own building of approximately 4,000 square feet dedicated solely to the welfare of pet birds.
As Terrie was building her bird business, her daughter, Michelle Beckley, could not get birds out of her system. Michelle received a BS degree from Texas A&M in Biomedical Science then continued with jobs in the pet industry with a distributer and manufacturer of bird related items.
Armed with both experience and knowledge Michelle took over ownership of Kookaburra Bird Shop in 2003. She has since computerized the daily business of the shop and continued with her mother’s primary goal of helping people find the right birds for their lifestyles. It is Kookaburra Bird Shop’s primary goal that all it’s birds find long term loving homes.
